Tips and Tricks for iPhone 5 [PART-5]


Hi guys I am Sahil Sharma as in previous article I have shown you some tips and tricks to use iPhone 5. In this article I am going to present you lots of more tips and tricks for iPhone 5 users.
Just follow the steps as under:

How to bring up Media controls on the lock screen: You can access your media controls, even when your phone is in lock mode. Simply double press on the home key and your media control will appear.

How to slide to insert symbols: While it is possible to press the 123 button to access special characters and symbols, there is a faster way. Simply press and hold the 123 button, then slide your figure up to one of the numbers. If you know which symbol relates to which number, this can be a real time saver.


How to add phonetic spelling to Siri: If Siri is having a problem recognizing some of your contacts names, then you can teach it using phonetic language. Find the contact that siri is having a problem with. Then press edit at the top of the contact. Scroll to the bottom and press add field. You will then be given the option of a phonetic first name and phonetic last name simply enter the spelling of the contact to help siri understand their name.

How to search bing and yahoo with siri: If you are using siri to search the web, the application uses google by default, If how ever you would like to search using bing or yahoo, then simply say “Search Bing for abc” or “Search Yahoo for abc”. Another option is:
Just go to:
Settings> Safari> Search Engine. Then choose another search engine.   

How to talk siri discreetly: If you don’t like holding the phone in your hand and shouting commands at it, then there is a useful option:
Just go to: Settings> General> Siri.
Turn on raise to speak.
Then your phone’s proximity sensor will detect when you raise the phone to your ear, at which point you can talk to siri.

How to tell siri to call you something else: If you would prefer siri to call you something other than your name, simply say ‘Call me abc’. Siri will then ask you to confirm. Just reply ‘OK’. You can also open contacts. Then select your name. then press edit. Then press add field. Then choose Nickname. Enter a name you would Siri to call you and press done.

How to tell siri the phonetic spelling of your name:  If siri has a hard time pronouncing your name, you can phonetically spell it instead. Open contacts. Select your name. Press edit Scroll to the bottom and press add field. Then press phonetic first name or phonetic last name. Then enter the phonetic spelling of your name and press done. The same can be done for other contacts with hard to pronounce names.

How to change siri voice: The default UK voice is a bit snobby through, but you can choose your own voice by:
Just go to: Settings> General> Siri.

How to save battery life: GPS can be switched off when not in use.

How to put your iphone in DFU mode: If your iphone is not working properly, or won’t connect to itones, then often DFU mode will fix your problems. DFU mode stands for device firmware update and is the mode used to update your firmware, or jailbreak your device. It will also let you interface with itones without actually loading the phone. First connect your device to your computer and load itones. Then turn the phone off by holding down the power button at the top.


How to put your iphone in DFU mode: Then hold down both the sleep/power button and the Home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release just the power button. Keep holding the Home button until a message appears in itunes saying recovery mode has been detected. Your screen will be blank, but you will be able to interface with it via itunes. To exit DFU mode, hold down both the sleep/power button and home buttons while connected to itunes. Then release and press the Home button which should reboot the phone.

How to launch apps with Siri: To launch an app with siri’s voice recognition, all you need to do is press and hold the home key and say launch mail or launch maps. Or you can simply say safari or angry birds.

How to organize lists with remainder app:  The remainder app allows you to keep multiple lists to sort your tasks or notes. First open the remainder app. Then press the list button in the top-right corner of the screen. This will show your existing lists. Press create new list. Name your list and then press done. You can also press and hold to drag lists in whatever order you like. Once you have created at least one list you will be able to organize remainder a new option saying show more should appear. Press this and you will be able to assign the remainder to a list.

How to stop your iphone asking to join wifi networks: If you are get tired of the notifications asking if you want to join a wifi network, then this can be turned off,
Just go to: Settings> Wifi. Then scroll to the bottom. Change the switch that says ask to join networks, to off if you want to join a network in future, you will need to go to: Settings> wifi. Then chose the network you want to join.

How to use siri with remember the milk tasks app: For those using the popular ‘Remember the milk’ task management app, then you can now use the app with siri. Go to Settings> Mail, Calendar, Contacts. Then press add account.
Then press other. Then under calendar select add CalDav account. In the server field, enter www.rememberthemilk.com. Then press next. You should then be back in mail, contacts, calendar.\
Scroll to the bottom and press default list. Then press remember the milk. Then you can say something like ‘Remind me to pick up the kids tomorrow’ to add a task.
